The Chairman (NAA)-cum-ex-officio Secretary to the Government of India, Shri B.N. Sharma, IAS, held a review meeting on anti-profiteering efforts at Bhubaneshwar on 8th April 2019 with the senior officers of Bhubaneshwar CGST & CX Zone and Odisha State GST department. It was attended by more than 80 officers, including, Sh. Naresh Penumaka, Chief Commissioner, Bhubaneshwar CGST & CX Zone; Sh. Ashok Meena, Pr. Secretary(Finance), Govt of Odisha; Sh. Bishnupada Sethi, Commissioner (Commercial Taxes); Sh. Sanjeev Dewalwar, Commissioner, Bhubaneshwar CGST & CX Commissionerate.
In the meeting, the Chairman emphasized on the need of pro-active efforts by the GST field formations to ensure that the benefit of reduction of tax rates or benefit of ITC is being commensurately passed on to the consumers. He further added that any instance of non-compliance with the provisions of anti-profiteering should properly be inquired into and brought to the notice of NAA. During the meeting the GST Council Secretariat’s OM dated 18.1.19, talking about the need for an institutional mechanism to monitor the field officers’ anti-profiteering efforts, was discussed.
